Dasam Foundation’s Elderly Care Outreach in Nagaon
Dasam Foundation’s elderly care outreach in Nagaon supported 27 senior citizens with hygiene, nutrition, and essential supplies.

In the lead-up to Rongali Bihu, the Dasam Foundation (Nagaon Chapter) organised a focused outreach programme at an old age home run by Sadau Asom Gramya Puthibharal Santha (SAGPS) in Haibargaon, Nagaon, Assam.
The initiative was driven by a simple but important concern—many senior citizens in such homes live away from their families, often with limited access to consistent care and essential supplies. Recognising this gap, the Foundation designed the programme to address immediate, everyday needs with dignity and sensitivity.
A total of 27 senior citizens benefited from the initiative, each receiving support aimed at improving their daily comfort and well-being. The effort reflects the Foundation’s approach of prioritising practical, need-based interventions over symbolic activity.

Team Collaboration
The programme was coordinated by the Coordinator of the Nagaon Chapter of Dasam Foundation, Sonam Kaur Virdi leading the initiative and ensuring smooth, well-organised, and accountable execution on the ground.
Representing Sadau Asom Gramya Puthibharal Santha (SAGPS), the programme was attended by:
- Mr Khagen Ch Nath, General Secretary
- Ms Bibha Rani Hira, Member
- Ms Daisy Senapati, Member
Their presence and active involvement added strength to the initiative, highlighting the value of collaborative efforts in delivering meaningful and effective community support.

Support for Daily Life
While the distribution of essential supplies provided immediate relief, the most meaningful part of the visit was the connection built with the residents. In many institutional settings, daily life can become routine and isolating. Taking time to sit, listen, and engage brought a sense of warmth and belonging that went beyond material support.
The initiative focused on two areas that directly influence quality of life, hygiene and nutrition, with every item selected for immediate, practical use:
- Around 200 adult diapers were provided, in order to address a critical hygiene requirement.
- Fresh fruits, Amul Taaza milk and Packaged food items were distributed to support nutrition and overall health.
At the same time, the visit reinforced an important reality: support is not only about what is given, but also about presence. It wasn’t just a distribution, it was time shared, conversations held, and attention offered. While the supplies addressed physical needs, the human interaction brought a sense of comfort and recognition, reminding us that even small gestures of care can have a lasting impact.

A Continuing Commitment
This initiative highlights a larger and often overlooked reality, elderly care requires sustained attention, not occasional efforts. Supporting senior citizens is not simply an act of charity; it is a shared social responsibility that calls for consistency, sensitivity, and intent.
With this approach, the Dasam Foundation continues to strengthen its commitment to meaningful, on-ground service, working towards initiatives that are not only compassionate in intent, but also tangible in impact.
How You Can Support
Efforts like this are sustained through collective support. With greater participation, such initiatives can reach many more elderly individuals who continue to live without adequate care.
You can contribute in the following ways:
- Sponsor essential supplies such as hygiene kits and food items
- Partner with us to support similar programmes across more locations
- Volunteer your time to engage with and support elderly communities
Even a small contribution can help ensure that care reaches those who need it most—consistently, and with dignity.
