Free Health Check-up Camp in Golaghat by Dasam Foundation at Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurudwara

On the auspicious occasion of Baisakhi, the serene premises of Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurudwara at Bengenakhowa transformed into a hub of community care and medical outreach, as the Dasam Foundation (Golaghat Chapter) successfully organised a Free Health Check-up Camp from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Conducted with the support of the Office of the Joint Director of Health Services, Golaghat district, the initiative reflected a strong commitment towards preventive healthcare and grassroots engagement.

A Community-Centric Initiative

What stood out immediately was the seamless blend of service (seva) and medical professionalism. The objective was clear, bring essential health services closer to the people, especially those who may not regularly access medical facilities. The camp catered not only to devotees visiting the Gurudwara on Baisakhi but also to members of the surrounding local community.

From early morning, a steady stream of beneficiaries, senior citizens, women, and middle-aged individuals, began arriving. By the end of the day, over 100 individuals had undergone health screening, reflecting both awareness and trust in such initiatives.

Comprehensive Medical Services

The camp offered a range of essential diagnostic and consultation services, including general health check-ups, blood pressure monitoring, diabetes screening, dietary consultations, and medical advice. A dedicated team of five healthcare professionals ensured that each individual received careful attention:

  • Dr. Dharam Singh Lamba, MO, KB ALI BPHC
  • Dr. Vinit Chowdhury, MO, KB ALI BPHC
  • Nawab Md Arif, MPW
  • Tridip Shekhar Gogoi, MPW
  • Rumi Saikia, ANM

Medicines were prescribed to patients and several cases requiring further medical attention were identified and referred appropriately, an important outcome in terms of early detection and intervention.

The Key Stakeholders

The event witnessed active participation from both healthcare authorities and community leadership. Representatives from the health department, including Dr. Dharam Singh Lamba and Dr. Vinit Chowdhury, played a pivotal role in executing the medical operations.

The Dasam Foundation leadership was represented by Rupa Rani Kour, Founder Trustee, and Jaspreet Singh, Coordinator of the Golaghat Chapter, whose hands-on involvement ensured smooth coordination.

The Gurudwara management committee, led by S. Satvinder Singh Kalsi (President) and S. Yowraj Singh Bhamrah (General Secretary), extended full logistical and infrastructural support, embodying the spirit of community collaboration.

Awareness, Seva, and Volunteerism

Beyond diagnostics, the camp also served as a platform for spreading awareness about lifestyle diseases, hygiene, and preventive healthcare practices. Informal interactions between doctors and attendees helped demystify common health concerns.

Volunteers, including youth and members of the sangat, played a crucial role in managing registrations, guiding patients, and maintaining order. The presence of langar seva further reinforced the ethos of equality and service, ensuring that all attendees were cared for holistically.

Voices from the Ground

Jaspreet Singh, Coordinator, Dasam Foundation (Golaghat Chapter), remarked:
“Our aim is to reach those sections of society where healthcare awareness and access are limited. This camp is just one step in a larger mission of community upliftment.”

Dr. Dharam Singh Lamba and Dr. Vinit Chowdhury, both the Medical Officers, shared:
“Preventive health check-ups like these are critical. Many conditions can be managed effectively if detected early, and today we were able to identify several such cases.”

A beneficiary, an elderly local resident, expressed gratitude:
“We often ignore health issues due to lack of access. Today’s camp made it easy for us to consult doctors and get checkup done free of cost.”

Impact and the Road Ahead

The camp not only addressed immediate health concerns but also underscored the importance of early diagnosis and community-based healthcare delivery. Several individuals who were unaware of underlying conditions were identified and guided for further treatment.

The Dasam Foundation has indicated that this initiative is part of a broader outreach strategy. Many such camps are planned in remote and underserved areas, where awareness and access to healthcare remain limited.

Acknowledgements

The success of the event was made possible through the support and guidance of Dr. Ranjan Gogoi, Joint Director of Health Services, Golaghat district. The cooperation extended by the Golaghat Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, particularly S. Satvinder Singh Kalsi (President) and S. Yowraj Singh Bhamrah (General Secretary), was instrumental.
